The Epitome of Lebanon Part2/2

In just 10 years his opulent gowns have travelled from a small Beiruti showroom to gracing red carpets from London, Riyadh to Moscow. He has dressed many top models and celebrities and his creations can be found in all the major capitals. In this, he is following another successful compatriot, Elie Saab, whose creation Halle Berry wore when she won her Oscar. Top stars such as Paris Hilton, Beyonce, Miley Cirus, Shakira, Christina Aguilera and Carrie Underwood reportedly love his elegant, romantic creations, which are famous for their fine-jeweled beading and soft, sexy shapes. Miley Cyrus was seen wearing one of his creations at the Academy Awards, and most recently Christina Aguilera and Jennifer Lopez wore his creations at the 2011 Golden Globe Awards. Nina Dobrev, Wanda Sykes and singer Jewel were seen wearing Zuhair Murad dresses at the 2010 Emmy Awards. He also designed miss France’s dress Chloé Mortaud for Miss universe 2009 and 5 dresses for the final of Miss France 2010 .

While his ornate beading and bespoke creations placed him at the luxury end of the fashion world, Murad has also designed collections for global retail chain Mango, which are available almost exclusively in the Middle East. “It was a great opportunity and a challenge for me,” he says, “because Mango is an international brand and the clothes had to be accessible and affordable.” Through collaboration with Mango, Murad try to achieve the goal – to help the women who wear the clothes feel sexy, romantic and good about themselves. “Fashion should be accessible to everyone.”

His extensive lines encompass two haute couture, ready-to-wear, a line of menswear, accessories and eyewear. Plans to expand the fashion line are underway to include beauty products, perfumes, swimwear and lingerie as well as furnisher. Although well knowing it would be naive to think business won’t suffer as a result of the economic downturn and he’s watching the market with caution, he is still keen to expand. So he is preparing to open showrooms in Moscow and London, Beijing is also on the cards.I’m proud of my success in the Middle East but it was always my ambition to be international.” says Murad.

Zuhair Murad is a man like to change his mind all the time and prefer to keep things in low key. Let’s expect the following surprise for us.
